Privacy Policy: Privacy Shield Chrome Extension
Privacy Policy: Privacy Shield Chrome Extension
Effective Date: June 16, 2026
Your privacy is extremely important to us. This Privacy Policy describes how the Privacy Shield browser extension ("Extension", "we", "us", "our") handles user data.
1. Information We Collect (None)
Privacy Shield is built to operate completely offline.
- No Personal Data Collection: We do not collect, read, transmit, store, or share any personally identifiable information (PII) such as names, email addresses, IP addresses, GPS locations, or browsing history.
- No Financial Information Collection: While the Extension scans web pages to detect and blur financial figures (like currencies, transaction metrics, and balances) on screen, all text scanning and DOM manipulation are executed locally inside your browser context. No financial details or numbers are ever logged or sent to any server.
2. Permissions and Data Usage
The Extension requests minimal browser permissions to function.
Here is how they are used:
- Storage: Used solely to save your local configurations (enabled states, blur intensity level, custom site selectors, and domain exclusions/whitelists) on your device.
- Tabs: Used exclusively inside the popup settings panel to retrieve the active tab's domain name, allowing you to configure custom selectors and whitelists for the site you are currently visiting.
- Host Permission (<all_urls>): Required to inject content scripts into web pages so that the Extension can apply CSS blur filters to sensitive text nodes on load and overlay the visual element selector highlighter frame.
3. Data Storage
All custom selectors, whitelist rules, and settings are saved locally on your device using the browser’s sandboxed chrome.storage.local API. This data is never synchronized with external servers and never leaves your machine.
To clear or delete all saved settings:
- Open the popup control panel and delete individual selectors or whitelist entries.
- Alternatively, uninstalling the Extension will automatically purge all locally stored settings and rules.
4. Third-Party Sharing and Disclosures
Because we do not collect or store any user data, we do not—and cannot—sell, lease, trade, or transfer any user information to third-party advertisers, credit entities, or any other entities.
5. Compliance with Developer Policies
Privacy Shield complies fully with the Google Chrome Web Store Developer Program Policies, including the Single Purpose policy, the User Data Privacy policy, and the Least Privilege permission model.
6. Updates to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect modifications in our Extension or changes to browser store policies. Any updates will be posted on this page, and the effective date will be modified accordingly.
